This study examines the myth of marriage prohibitions in Ponggok Village, Blitar Regency, as a form of living traditional knowledge that shapes social behavior. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with a dukun manten as the key informant. The study aims to interpret these myths through ontological, epistemological, and axiological perspectives.
The findings reveal seven types of prohibitions—ngalor ngulon, ngidul ngetan, weton geyeng, gothang, lusan desa, tumbuk desa, tunduk wuwung, and tunduk waton—which function as a normative framework in partner selection. Ontologically, these myths are socially constructed realities; epistemologically, they are transmitted intergenerationally; and axiologically, they contain moral and cultural values.
Despite being perceived as irrational, these myths maintain social order and cultural identity. Therefore, contextual reinterpretation is needed to preserve their values while adapting to contemporary rationality and religious principles
